Types of Wrinkles

People usually develop two different types of wrinkles on their faces. These types are as follows:

  • Surface lines, that can be somewhat reduced by topical application of wrinkle treatment crèmes and gels.
  • Deep furrows that can be removed with the help of injection fillers and plastic surgery.

Crow’s feet are commonly seen a sign of aging and occur even in your 20s. Eye wrinkles and well any kind of wrinkles really are inevitable, but they can definitely be delayed from showing up.

Tips to Prevent Wrinkle Formation

Here are some effective and proven methods to prevent wrinkles from appearing before their time.

Get Plenty Sleep: You can prevent premature eye wrinkles by getting 8 hours of sleep every night. The right amount of sleep will enable your body to produce higher levels of a hormone called cortisol, which breaks down skin cells. Getting adequate sleep also produces more Human Growth Hormone keeping the skin more elastic and thick.

Gentle Application and Removal of Makeup: If makeup is a part of your regular routine, make sure you treat your skin with tenderness especially around the eyes. Because the skin here is about 5-10 times thinner than the rest of your face. Avoid any rubbing in these areas as it will result in skin stretching. Use your ring fingers instead of the index for applying makeup. These fingers are weaker compared to the others and will use less force. Also, be gentle around your tear ducts and use products that do not irritate your skin to avoid rubbing and scratching.

Quit Smoking: Cigarette smoke is known to cause premature skin aging. It diminishes the effect of collagen and elastin, which are vital for tight young skin. Smoking cigarettes makes your skin age faster than necessary, making the skin over the face loose and especially around the eyes.

Avoid the Extended Sun Exposure: Constant exposure to the sun is the main reason behind eye wrinkles. Try reducing your time in the sun for less wrinkly skin. Always put on sunscreen 15-30 minutes before stepping out in the sun, then reapply every 2 hours. Check that your sunscreen has minimum SPF 15 protection and shields your skin against all UV rays. Limiting sun exposure will reduce wrinkles and prevent skin cancer too. Sunglasses are also a good idea as they will filter out harmful sunlight causing eye wrinkles.

Use Retinoid and Retinol Creams: Topical Retinoid creams are prepared from Vitamin A. They have the ability to thicken the skin and prevent eye wrinkles with regular use. Since they do produce side-effects like dryness, redness, itching, and sensitivity check with your dermatologist before using them. Over-the-counter wrinkle creams are far less effective and comprise of Retinol.

Check Your Eyes: Get your eyes checked to see if you need reading glasses. Poor vision leads to squinting and this, in turn, leads to formation of crow’s feet. So, don’t vanity get the better of you.

Sleep Position: Sleep on your back to avoid sleep lines which are wrinkles etched in your face from sleeping on your stomach. While this may be difficult if you are in a habit of sleeping on your stomach or sides, make a conscious effort to always fall off to sleep on your back.

Choose the Right Foods: To avoid wrinkles you can also eat foods containing soy, fish, olive oils, green vegetables and nuts. These are rich in antioxidants and skin-friendly nutrients. One of the causes of skin aging is oxidative stress caused by free radicals. The antioxidants destroy free radicals and prevent oxidative damage to the skin.

Natural Massage: You can also opt for natural ingredients to massage and moisturise your skin. Pineapple juice has an active enzyme that is proven to be effective against wrinkles. Both, cucumber and castor oil help keep the delicate skin around the eyes hydrates to prevent wrinkle formation. The other skin-friendly oil is coconut oil. It keeps skin soft and keeps lines and wrinkles at bay.
